MINT IT, BABY!

I vividly remember my bedroom back in the 90’s. My sister and I shared bedrooms and we certainly never had a say, when it came to the decor. We had these ugly duckling wallpapers on the wall. Basically, those ducklings children play with during bath time. Yes, THAT ugly!

It was this medium sized room with yellow ducks all over the walls paired with sheer, pastel pink floor to ceiling drapes ( I now think those were actually nice!) and tons of dolls all over the place. The room certainly had no style nor definition, just a mess to sum it up.

Now, I am pleased to see how parents are actually putting more effort on creating a sanctuary for their offspring. People are becoming more confident in exploring different looks.

The access to all sorts of visual inspiration facilitates the movement and the trend is pretty clear: The more unusual the approach the more fun it looked. It is definitely moving away from the traditional baby blue and pink schemes. The tendency to go for more neutral colors is pretty strong and one unconventional color, in particular, seems to stand out a lot: Mint Green. YAAASS, Mint Green!

To be frank, I’ve never been a fan of green, but I’m totally loving the way this pastel color is being mixed with darker hues, neutrals and other poppy accent colors such as neon pink and yellows. It’s quite surprising to see the diversity this color offers, for boys and girls!

Along with that, I see this growing trend of incorporating large scale artwork, gallery walls or wallpapers into infantile rooms. Don’t get me wrong, there had been artwork used in kids rooms before, but it seemed to have gained more emphasis and these rooms definitely get the same decor treatment as other rooms, like for example the living room, when it came to artwork. It’s all about exuding a happy place. The more expressive, the better! Imagery and the decor are great mediums to translate that and a cool way to visually influence the little ones.

What do you guys think of these trends? And please tell me about your childhood bedrooms and which color would you choose for your (future) child’s room?

I’d love to know!

XO – Márcia
