Márcia Miranda I binged the heck out of the Netflix Original Series “Abstract :: The Art of Design and absolutely love it!
The selection of artists and the and their unique perspectives and takes on Design. SO inspiring and rejuvenating! Who stood out to me the most is Es Devlin a renowned Stage Designer. You might have been exposed to her stunning artistry already, without even knowing! Famous institutions and music artists such as Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Lady Gaga, Sam Smith and more have collaborated with this hyper talent!
In retrospect, I remember sitting in the second row of the “Watch the Throne” tour and how intense that experience was. The layering of light beams and enormous rotating LED cubes hosting Kanye and Jay Z. I remember thinking how this was visually fulfilling my art stimulus on another level. The lights and projections were coordinated with the sound which elevated the experience even more.
Seeing the scale the stage design was taken at Beyoncé’s “Formation Tour” was fascinating. Up until that point, I had never seen such elaborate stage design and was undeniably pleased as a fan and designer. I can’t wait to see more of Es’ artistry and see all the other level of amazing she can reach as a mother of 2!
Besides Es, you will see episodes documenting photographer Platon, Nike shoe designer Tinker Hatfield, car designer Ralph Gilles, interior designer Ilse Crawford, graphic designer Paula Sher, architect Bjarke Ingels and illustrator Christoph Niemann.
My verdict: DEFINITELY A MUST WATCH!
